Top Tips For Choosing Bathroom Flooring August 2012

With so many different types of flooring to choose from, it can be hard to know what’s right for your bathroom. Read our quick guide to bathroom flooring so you can pick the perfect bathroom floor.

Carpet

Although carpeting a bathroom is less popular than it once was there are still many people who prefer the warmth that carpet offers for their bathroom flooring. In recent years carpeting fell out of favour for bathrooms because the majority of carpets were not moisture resistant enough, which meant they ended up looking stained and warped.  However today there are lots of different types of carpet available which are designed to withstand high levels of moisture, so it is possible to find a carpet that’s suitable for bathroom flooring.

Stone

Stone can look amazing in bathrooms, especially if you want to add a touch of class to your décor. However, stone can be an expensive option and can be quite cold to the touch unless under floor heating is fitted. However, with proper heating stone can be very warm and inviting.

Vinyl

Vinyl flooring technology continues to develop and in terms of versatility, vinyl can probably offer the greatest variety of styles and designs. Many vinyl floors are also designed to be slip resistant and cushion falls more effectively, making it an ideal choice if you have young children. They’re also very easy to keep clean and germ free as all they require is a wipe with a cloth or a mop to get them clean.

Ceramic tiles

The best thing about ceramic tiles is that there are so many different types of tile available, so if you want a crisp white floor, a warm sandstone effect, bold colours or even a mosaic, you can do it with tiles. It’s usually a good idea to use special tile cleaner to make sure you get rid of any grease, dirt or residue, but it’s still very easy to clean ceramic tiles. If you’re worried about your tiles being cold and uncomfortable to walk on, you can always install under floor heating before they are laid.

Hardwood

Harwood floors are timeless and elegant, so they’re the perfect choice of bathroom flooring in period and character homes. Although hardwood is less resistant to water than some other materials it can be coated in specialist varnish which is designed to protect it from the effects of water, so it’ll continue to look good for years to come.
